If you changed your phone and want to restore your WhatsApp chats, you need a backup created earlier.
On Android, WhatsApp uses Google Drive backup. Make sure the new phone uses the same Gmail account that was on the old phone.
Install WhatsApp on the new phone, enter the same phone number, and complete verification. When WhatsApp asks to Restore Backup, tap Restore.
On iPhone, WhatsApp uses iCloud backup. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple ID used on the old phone.
If WhatsApp cannot find the backup, check these:
- The phone number must be the same
- The Gmail or Apple ID must be the same
- The internet connection must be stable
- The backup must exist on the old phone
It is better to enable daily or weekly automatic backup so you do not lose your messages.
